Due to the building of a new modern property in Wellington Heath Herefordshire we were asked to carry out a new connection to the main sewer ,which was located in the road outside the new building plot. Due to fact that this was a completely new building plot with no existing services, all had to be connected to the new building from scratch. All services were located in the road outside the property and due to the restricted width of the road, a road closure with a diversion route was put in place. A road closure of 10 days was put in place and due to the complexity of the diversion route all connections had to take place in this period, gas ,electric, water and sewer connections. Gas was carried out first followed by electric and water, leaving the sewer connection to last.
With the careful organising and cooperation of the utilitie companies and our selves we were left the final two days of the closure to carry out the connection. The connection involved connecting into the back of a existing manhole situated in the middle of the road. First A trench is excavated from the existing manhole to just inside the new building plot and then a new 4 inch clay pipe is connected into existing manhole and then connected into a new boundary manhole located approximately 1 meter inside the driveway of the new building plot. The new pipe is bedded on and covered in pea gravel before being back filled with sub base which is compacted in layers. Finally the road section is tarmaced to highways specifications and the road opened to traffic all within the timescale of the road closure, working closely with the other utility companies allowed all work to be carried out with minimal disruption to the local residents.
